How to use GIF to JPG

  1. Drag and drop or browse to select your GIF image.

  3. Click "Convert and Download" to save the JPG still frame.

What is GIF to JPG?

GIF files are often used for short animations, but sometimes you just need a single still image from them. Converting to JPG gives you a compact, universally compatible photo-format file of the GIF's first frame.

Because JPG does not support transparency, any transparent areas in the GIF are composited onto a white background during conversion. If the GIF has transparent regions that are important, consider converting to PNG instead, which preserves transparency with full alpha-channel support.

Use the quality slider to balance the JPG file size. For a sharp thumbnail at 85 % quality, the resulting file is typically several times smaller than the original GIF while looking clean and detailed.

FAQ

Will I get all frames of an animated GIF as JPGs?
No — only the first frame is converted. For frame-by-frame extraction you need a dedicated GIF decomposer tool.
What happens to transparent areas in the GIF?
They are filled with white, because JPG does not support transparency. Use GIF to PNG if you need to preserve transparent regions.
Why is JPG a better format than GIF for still images?
JPG supports full 24-bit colour (16+ million colours) compared to GIF's 256-colour limit. For photographs and detailed images, JPG produces significantly better visual quality at similar or smaller file sizes.
