What is EU VAT Calculator?

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax applied throughout the European Union and many other countries. Each EU member state sets its own standard VAT rate, ranging from 17% in Luxembourg to 27% in Hungary. This calculator covers all EU-27 countries plus the UK, Switzerland, and Norway with their 2026 standard rates.

Use 'Add VAT' to calculate the gross price from a net amount (e.g., for invoicing) or 'Remove VAT' to extract the net amount from a gross price (reverse VAT calculation). Each country's reduced rates are shown as reference information.

FAQ

What is the highest VAT rate in the EU?
Hungary has the highest standard VAT rate in the EU at 27%, followed by Croatia, Denmark, and Sweden at 25%.
What is the difference between Add VAT and Remove VAT?
Add VAT calculates the gross (total) price by adding VAT to your net amount — useful when you know your pre-tax price. Remove VAT extracts the net amount from a gross price — useful for checking how much VAT is included in a purchase price.
Do these rates include reduced VAT rates?
This calculator uses each country's standard VAT rate for calculations. Reduced rates (e.g., for food, books, or medicines) are shown as informational text below the country selector.
Are the UK, Switzerland, and Norway in the EU VAT system?
No — the UK left the EU, and Switzerland and Norway are not EU members. However, they all have their own VAT systems with similar mechanics. They are included here for convenience.
