How to use Sales Tax Calculator

  1. Enter the amount and the tax rate as a percentage.
  2. Choose whether the amount is before tax (add tax) or tax included (remove tax).
  3. Read the net, tax amount, and gross total.

What is Sales Tax Calculator?

This sales tax calculator works in both directions. In before tax mode it adds the tax rate to your net amount to give the gross total. In tax included mode it reverses the maths to split a gross total back into its net price and the tax portion — handy for receipts and invoices that only show the final figure.

It works for any percentage-based consumption tax, including US sales tax, VAT, and GST. All calculations run locally in your browser.

FAQ

How do I remove tax from a total?
Choose the 'Tax included' mode. The net price is the total divided by (1 + rate÷100), and the tax is the total minus the net.
Does this work for VAT and GST?
Yes. VAT and GST are percentage-based consumption taxes, so the same add/remove maths applies — just enter the relevant rate.
Are the calculations private?
Yes. Nothing is uploaded; all maths runs in your browser.
