How to use Screen Uniformity Test

  1. Start on the 50% gray screen (loaded by default). Look for uneven brightness, especially near edges and corners.
  2. Move your head left/right and up/down — uniformity issues often shift with viewing angle.
  3. Cycle to solid white to check for yellowing or dim spots, then solid black for backlight bleed.
  4. Use fullscreen mode (Space) for the most accurate assessment without UI distractions.

What is Screen Uniformity Test?

Screen uniformity issues are most visible on mid-gray backgrounds. Backlight bleed appears as brighter areas (usually along edges), IPS glow as a silvery sheen at angles, and color shifts as tints that vary across the screen. This tool starts you on a 50% gray screen — the ideal baseline for spotting these problems. Move your head to different angles and check all corners and edges.

Solid white and black screens are also useful: white reveals yellowing or dim zones, black reveals backlight bleed at maximum contrast. Use the full color cycle for a complete assessment.

What is backlight bleed?
Backlight bleed is light leaking around the edges of an LCD panel, visible as brighter patches on dark screens. It is most noticeable in dark rooms on black or near-black content. Some bleed is normal for LCDs; excessive bleed may be a defect.
What is IPS glow?
IPS glow is a silvery or orange sheen that appears on IPS-type LCD panels when viewed at an angle, especially on dark content. Unlike backlight bleed, IPS glow shifts with your viewing angle and is considered normal for IPS technology.
How do I know if my screen uniformity is acceptable?
All LCD and OLED panels have some variation. Minor unevenness visible only on test patterns is normal. If you can see color shifts or bright/dark patches during normal use (web browsing, documents, videos), you may want to contact your manufacturer about a replacement.
