How to use VAT Calculator

  1. Enter the transaction amount in the Amount field.
  2. Select your country from the dropdown — the VAT rate updates automatically, or choose Custom to enter any rate.
  3. Choose whether the amount is VAT-exclusive (add VAT) or VAT-inclusive (extract VAT). The net, VAT, and gross amounts update instantly.

What is VAT Calculator?

A VAT (Value Added Tax) calculator helps you determine the tax component of a transaction. In the GCC, VAT was introduced in 2018 starting with UAE and Saudi Arabia at 5% — Saudi Arabia later increased to 15% in 2020. Qatar and Kuwait currently have 0% VAT. This calculator covers all GCC countries plus major international rates including UK (20%), Germany (19%), France (20%), India (18%), and Australia (10%).

You can toggle between exclusive mode (adding VAT on top of a net amount) and inclusive mode (extracting VAT from a gross amount). All three values — net, VAT, and gross — are displayed clearly for easy reference.

FAQ

What is the UAE VAT rate?
The UAE VAT rate is 5%, introduced on 1 January 2018. Certain sectors like healthcare, education, and residential real estate may be zero-rated or exempt.
What is the difference between VAT-inclusive and VAT-exclusive?
VAT-exclusive means the amount shown is before VAT is added — you need to add VAT on top. VAT-inclusive means the VAT is already baked into the price — the calculator extracts it to show you the net and VAT portions.
Which GCC countries charge VAT?
UAE (5%), Saudi Arabia (15%), Oman (5%), and Bahrain (10%) currently charge VAT. Qatar and Kuwait have 0% VAT as of 2025.
Can I use a custom VAT rate?
Yes. Select 'Custom rate' at the bottom of the country dropdown and enter any percentage you need.
