What is UAE Gratuity Calculator?
Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, employees who complete at least one year of continuous service are entitled to end-of-service gratuity. The calculation is based on your basic salary (excluding allowances like housing and transport).
For the first 5 years of service, you earn 21 days of basic salary per year. After 5 years, you earn 30 days per year. The total gratuity cannot exceed 2 years' worth of salary. For unlimited contracts, resigning employees with 1-3 years of service receive 1/3 gratuity, and those with 3-5 years receive 2/3. Full gratuity applies after 5 years or upon termination by the employer.
FAQ
- What is the maximum gratuity in the UAE?
- The total gratuity is capped at 2 years' worth of basic salary, regardless of how long you have worked. For someone earning AED 15,000 basic monthly salary, the maximum gratuity would be AED 360,000.
- Do I lose gratuity if I resign?
- It depends on your contract type and length of service. Under an unlimited contract, you receive 1/3 gratuity if you resign after 1-3 years, 2/3 after 3-5 years, and full gratuity after 5 years. Under a limited contract, resigning before the contract term ends may forfeit gratuity entirely.
- Is gratuity calculated on full salary or basic salary?
- Gratuity is calculated on basic salary only — excluding allowances such as housing, transport, and other benefits. This is specified in Article 51 of the UAE Labour Law.
- What is the difference between this and the End of Service Calculator?
- This calculator uses actual calendar dates for precise service period calculation, supports leave encashment and repatriation additions, and includes 8-currency conversion. The End of Service Calculator uses a simplified years-of-service input for quick estimates.
