How to use Image to Text

  1. Upload or drag an image containing text.
  2. Select the language of the text.
  3. Click Extract Text to run OCR.
  4. Copy the extracted text or download as a .txt file.

What is Image to Text?

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts images of text into actual editable text. This tool uses Tesseract.js running via WebAssembly entirely in your browser — no uploads, no servers. The first run downloads a ~3 MB language model (cached for subsequent runs), and processing happens on your device.

Best results come from sharp, well-contrasted images. For challenging scans, try adjusting brightness/contrast first or cropping to just the text region for faster and more accurate extraction.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Tesseract.js runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image never leaves your device.
Which languages are supported?
English, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), and Japanese.
How accurate is the OCR?
Accuracy depends on image quality. Sharp, high-contrast images with clear fonts produce the best results. Handwriting and stylized fonts are less reliable.
