How to use List Maker

  1. Paste your raw lines into the input box (one item per line).
  2. Choose a list format from the dropdown (bulleted, numbered, Roman, alphabet, or checklist).
  3. Optionally enable auto-nesting to create hierarchical lists from indented lines.
  4. Copy the formatted list or save it as a file.

What is List Maker?

The List Maker transforms plain text lines into structured, formatted lists in one click. Whether you need a simple bulleted grocery list, a numbered step-by-step guide, or a complex nested outline with Roman numerals, this tool handles it instantly.

Enable auto-nesting to detect 2-space indentation and create hierarchical lists automatically. Choose from seven formats: three bullet styles (dot, dash, asterisk), numbered (1. 2. 3.), Roman numerals (I. II. III.), alphabetical (a. b. c.), or checklists for to-do items. All processing is client-side — your text stays private.

FAQ

How does auto-nesting work?
Auto-nesting detects lines indented with 2 spaces and creates nested list levels. Each 2-space indent increases the nesting depth by one level. The numbering resets at each depth level.
Can I mix different list styles?
The tool applies a single format to all lines. For mixed styles (e.g., bullets for top level and numbers for nested), run the tool separately for each level and combine the results manually.
What are the available formats?
Three bullet styles (dot, dash, asterisk), numbered (1. 2. 3.), uppercase Roman numerals (I. II. III.), lowercase alphabetical (a. b. c.), and checklists with empty ballot boxes (☐).
Is my text uploaded?
No. All list formatting happens in your browser with vanilla JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device.
