What is PDF Bates Numbering?

Bates numbering is the standard method for uniquely identifying pages in legal and business document collections. Set your prefix (e.g., EXHIBIT-), starting number, and how many digits to pad to. Choose from six placement positions — bottom left, center, right, or top equivalents — and adjust font size and opacity. The output PDF has every page stamped sequentially in order.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded to a server?
No — everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device.
What if I have more pages than digits can count?
Numbers will extend beyond the padded width naturally — e.g., EXHIBIT-999 will still display as EXHIBIT-1000 even if you set 3 digits.
Can I change the font?
This tool uses Courier (monospace) to ensure consistent spacing. For other fonts, try our PDF Text Stamp tool.
