About corrupted PDFs

Many PDF viewers silently fix small errors. If a PDF opens but behaves oddly (missing pages, slow rendering, errors when editing), this tool attempts structural repair by re-writing cross-reference tables, preserving object streams, and linearizing the file. Severely damaged files may not be fully recoverable.

What is PDF Fix / Repair Corrupted?

Many PDF viewers silently fix small errors. If a PDF opens but behaves oddly — missing pages, slow rendering, errors when editing, or crashes in some readers — its internal structure may be damaged. This tool uses qpdf to reconstruct the cross-reference table, renumber objects, and linearize the file for streaming. It does not alter page content; it only fixes the structural 'scaffolding' that holds the PDF together.

Severely damaged files with corrupted content streams may not be fully recoverable. This tool fixes structure issues, not garbled pixel data.

FAQ

What kinds of PDF damage can this fix?
Broken cross-reference tables, duplicate object IDs, corrupted linearization data, and mild structural inconsistencies. It cannot fix corrupted image/pixel data inside content streams.
Will the repaired file be larger?
Often yes — reconstruction adds proper cross-reference entries and may decompress object streams, increasing file size slightly in exchange for stability.
If this doesn't work, what else can I try?
Try opening the PDF in a different viewer (Chrome, Acrobat, Foxit), or use a dedicated desktop repair tool for severely damaged files.
