How to use GPA Calculator

  1. Click 'Add Course' to add a row. Optionally type the course name for your own reference — it does not affect the calculation.
  2. Select the letter grade from the dropdown (A through F with plus/minus modifiers) and enter the number of credit hours for the course.
  3. Repeat for each course. Your cumulative GPA and total credits update automatically as you make changes. Remove any row with the × button.

What is GPA Calculator?

The GPA calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale where an A equals 4.0 points and an F equals 0.0. Letter grades with plus or minus modifiers are also supported: A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down through D- at 0.7. The weighted average is computed by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all the results, and dividing by total credit hours.

Credit hours represent the weight each course carries in the calculation. A 4-credit course influences your GPA more than a 1-credit elective. This mirrors how universities compute official transcripts, so the result you see here matches what your registrar would calculate.

You can model different scenarios by adding or removing courses. For example, add a planned future course to see what grade you would need to reach a target GPA, or remove courses to isolate a single semester.

FAQ

What GPA scale does this calculator use?
The standard 4.0 scale used by most colleges and universities in the United States: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7, F = 0.0.
Can I calculate my GPA for just one semester?
Yes — enter only the courses from that semester and the result will be your semester GPA. For a cumulative GPA across multiple semesters, enter all courses from every semester you want to include.
How do I find out what grade I need to reach a target GPA?
Add all your completed courses with their actual grades, then add a new row representing the upcoming course with different trial grades until the displayed GPA reaches your target.
