What is PDF Remove Metadata?

PDFs carry hidden metadata — author name, document title, subject, keywords, creator application, producer, and creation/modification timestamps. This tool strips every metadata field, removes unreferenced resources, and assigns a deterministic ID so the output cannot be tracked back to the original. Ideal before sharing documents publicly, submitting anonymously, or cleaning files before archiving.

Uses qpdf with --remove-unreferenced-resources and --deterministic-id for maximum privacy.

FAQ

What metadata is removed?
Author, title, subject, keywords, creator (app that made it), producer (PDF library used), creation date, and modification date. Unreferenced internal objects are also purged.
Does this affect the PDF content?
No. Only metadata and unreferenced resources are removed. Page content, images, text, and layout are unchanged.
Can metadata be recovered after removal?
No. The output gets a deterministic (non-unique) ID, so the file cannot be traced back to the original even with forensic tools.
